FAQ
Quick answers for buyers and artists using the marketplace.
Who sells the artwork?
The artist or authorised seller is the seller of record. The sales contract is directly between the buyer and seller, and BuyOneOfOne does not take ownership or title to the artwork. BuyOneOfOne provides the marketplace, checkout facilitation, provenance records, and documentation tooling.
How are payments handled?
Available checkout methods are processed securely through Stripe. Depending on your device, region, currency, and Stripe settings, checkout may show cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay, Link, Amazon Pay, Alipay, or other local payment methods. Artists or authorised sellers receive 85% of the artwork sale price after a completed sale; BuyOneOfOne retains a 15% platform fee for marketplace and record services, and shipping is passed on separately.
Who provides invoices or tax records?
Stripe receipts and BuyOneOfOne order confirmations are marketplace payment records. The artist or authorised seller remains responsible for any seller invoice, VAT invoice, commercial invoice, customs paperwork, or tax records required for the artwork sale. BuyOneOfOne may separately record or document its own 15% platform fee where required.
Does marketplace VAT make the full artwork sale BuyOneOfOne revenue?
No, VAT liability and revenue recognition are separate issues. Marketplace VAT rules may require BuyOneOfOne to charge, collect, report, or account for VAT on certain facilitated sales, especially where overseas sellers, imported goods, goods location, or buyer VAT status matter. That does not by itself mean the full artwork sale is BuyOneOfOne revenue; the platform revenue remains the 15% platform fee and any separately stated service fee unless law, accounting standards, or professional advice require different treatment.
Who can sell during the UK launch?
The initial launch is intended for UK-established artists and authorised sellers with artwork located in the UK at the point of sale. International sellers, non-UK artwork origins, or imported goods can be recorded for review, but live listing or checkout may stay paused until the VAT, import, and seller-establishment position is confirmed.
Can international buyers purchase?
Yes, where the seller has added that delivery destination and checkout is enabled. International buyers may need to accept responsibility for import VAT, duties, brokerage fees, local taxes, and customs clearance in their destination country before payment.
What happens after I buy an artwork?
The artwork is marked as sold, the order is recorded, and the artist can create Certificate of Authenticity copies for the buyer, artist, and website record. The CoA records the seller declaration; BuyOneOfOne does not independently authenticate, appraise, or value the artwork.
How do I reclaim money if there is a problem?
Open Purchase History, choose the completed order, and use Report issue within 14 days. BuyOneOfOne reviews the request first. If approved, the artwork must be returned safely, then BuyOneOfOne issues the buyer refund through Stripe to the original payment method.
Who arranges shipping?
Artists add the countries they ship to and the shipping price for each destination. Buyers select the destination during checkout.
Can buyers make offers?
Yes. Buyers with an account can submit offers of at least £20 on available works, and artists can review them from the dashboard.
What if something goes wrong?
Use the contact form for delivery, payment, listing, not-as-described, or authenticity concerns. Include the artwork or order details so support can investigate quickly.
